Sleep in's, good food, laughs, movies, days out and days in were a few of my favourite things! It was so nice to spend time at home doing whatever we fancied. One of my favourite days was spent at Jirralinga with the kids. It was quite cold so it was not busy there and the kids and I got to feed the Kangaroos and Emus and to pat the Koalas. The kids were very amused by the talking cockatoos - they provided a lot of laughs. The kids and I at Jirralinga I also bought an outdoor fire pit so that I could feel as though I was on holidays - normally I go camping and one of my favorite things is about camping is the fire. Overall it was really nice just to stay around home and relax! :)

Phew, almost the end of term 1! So glad that holidays are almost here. Tired kids, tired brain and I cannot wait until I can hang about doing whatever takes my (or my kids) fancy. Late breakfasts, catching up with friends and maybe a night out or two - Bring. It. On!
In terms of reflection I have enjoyed getting to know my new classes and I feel as though I have names sorted and mostly under control (which feels better than last year given I was still finding my way around the school at this stage). So, upon reflection, I think I am doing a better job of knowing my students than last year. I am really enjoying teaching a variety of year levels and do very much like being a year 7 homeroom teacher - but I think I would enjoy that role at any year level. My year 7's seem to be well adjusted to the Secondary School life, and using their planners effectively on the whole (yay me!). My attempts at being more organised and orderly are probably not coming as much into fruition as I would like, and I am not sure that I am ever going to feel like a proper grown up kind of teacher. But that is me! I do worry that I am not allowing or developing each student to reach their potential though so I do need some deeper reflection on my teaching practises. I have enjoyed reading Alice with the year 7's and I feel that we explored the concepts and issues of Social Media really well in year 9 - and I do also think that this website has been worth the effort (and am happy to hear your feedback oh students of mine!). VCAL has been good so far and it does seem like a really positive group of students although I have the feeling that I am perhaps not pushing them hard enough. I have enjoyed checking off their celebrity work as it keeps life interesting. in humanities I am learning alongside the students and I believe that it has been a successful start (& I am all organised for Egypt which is cool and I am really looking forward to teaching that unit!). My favourite thing this term has been decorating my homeroom and getting to know my students. To improve - I would like to be a little more organised. To do this I will make an outline of the term over the school holidays. I am looking forward the rest of the 'Curious Incident' unit and Egypt the most next term. Overall I am going to conclude that this term has been a successful one for me, and hopefully also for my students. |
